I bought a new iMac about 3 months ago, right before the new model was released. It is supposed to burn both CD-R and CD-RW disks. It will burn CD-R disks, but not CD-RW disks reliably. Whenever I try to burn a CD-RW disk it starts the normal protocol and actually seems to burn the data, but won't verify the disk. It gives me an error message basically implying that the disk is defective and should be discarded. I have tried two separate packages of CD-RW disks and only one (of 15) burned correctly.

I don't really need to burn CD-RW disks. And I'm somewhat concerned that the cure may be worse than the disease. I haven't tried a different manufacturer of CD-RW disks yet, but the disks I tried appear to be manufactured by the same company that manufactured the optical drive so one would think they would be compatible.

Incidentally, I have upgraded the operating system to OSX 10.4.10; could this be part of the problem? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I still have 9 months under warranty to figure this out, if it is going to be a major problem.

Thanks

I tried another brand of CD-RW disks and they seem to work fine. Hopefully, that solves the problem.

Jim,

I've found that different drives can like different brands of media. I tend to buy the same brand once I find one that works with my drive.
